Our mission is to provide an exemplary level of service and responsiveness to you and your family as you do business with the County. The County Clerk’s Office is the “front office” for Madison County. We are the official record keepers for the County as well as its fiscal office.

Our goal is to ensure that accurate and accessible records are kept for Madison County and to assist our citizens by keeping the records of the people’s business open and understandable.

Which Commissioner handles my road? How do I get a marriage license? What documents do I need to bring?

Both applicants should appear at the County Clerk’s office to apply for a marriage license.
Applicants who are 17 or 18 years of age must provide a notarized consent form, signed by the applicant’s parent or legal guardian/custodian, giving consent to the marriage. If the individual giving consent is a legal guardian or custodian, a document must be presented reflecting the relationship to the minor. If either applicant is under 17 years of age, a marriage license cannot be issued in the State of Nebraska.
Applicants must present one form of identification, such as a driver’s license, photo ID, or passport, which contains the name, date of birth, and recognizable photograph.
Applicants must provide their birthplaces, including city and state or foreign country.
Applicants must provide their parents’ names, including mother’s maiden name, and parents’ birthplaces, including city and state or foreign country.
Applicants must provide Social Security numbers, if they have one. Applicants who do not have Social Security numbers must complete a form provided by the County Clerk verifying that they do not have a Social Security number.
The fee for a marriage license is $25.00.
The marriage license expires one year from the issuance date. A marriage can be performed in any county in the State of Nebraska, regardless of which county issued the marriage license.
If either of the applicants is divorced, the couple must wait six months after the divorce decree is final to re-marry in the State of Nebraska.

To obtain a photocopy or certified copy of a marriage license issued in Madison County you must provide the following information:

$1.00 for a photocopy or $9.00 for a certified copy
Maiden name of the bride and name of the groom
Date of marriage

A one-day liquor license can be obtained by a nonprofit type organization or a retail licensee who wishes to hold an event off his licensed premises. The license fee is $40 made payable to the Nebraska Liquor Control commission. Each application must have local approval.

Tobacco License

Every person, partnership or corporation, desiring a license under this act, shall file with the clerk or finance department of the city, town or village where his, their or its place of business is located, if within the limits of a city, town or village or with the clerk of the county where such business is located if outside the limits of any city, town or village, a written applications, stating the name of the person, partnership or corporation for whom such license is desired, and the exact location of the place of business; and shall deposit with such application the amount of the license fee hereinafter provided.

The term for which license shall run shall be from the date of filing such application and paying such license fee to and including December 31 of the calendar year in which application for such license is made.

If application for license is made after July 1 of any calendar year the fee shall be one half of the fee provided in this section.
